It is extremely important to me and to the political process of voting for elected councillors that our membership make informed votes on our council candidates. This post is about who am I and what I've done.

First and foremost, my parents are Brent Sparrow Jr. and Dawn Campbell-Sparrow. My grandmothers are Susan Point, late Theresa Campbell (nee Point) and Nora Campbell (nee Moody). My grandfathers are late Brent Sparrow Sr. and Benjamin (Benny) Campbell. While my biological mother, Susan Soloman, has bloodline from Gitxsan Nation, I have been born and raised within Musqueam Reserve #2. I do not have a traditional name, but our community's cultural values and teachings have been cemented into me since I was a child through my family's cultural connections.

As of September 2020, I have moved back to Musqueam Reserve #2 after living in the Okanagan for 18 months. I have made educational commitments in Vancouver, which mean I will continue to live here for the foreseeable future. Musqueam is my home and my family. I belong here.

I am 25 years old and a graduate of UBC. I studied Economics and Business within my undergraduate, and I'm now currently studying a Masters of Indigenous Community Planning (ICP) at UBC. I am both humbled and honoured to be the very first Musqueam student within their program. Musqueam's planning department and our internationally renowned Comprehensive Community Plan has made us an integral partner and facilitator within the ICP program. Notable courses I have gained knowledge in that would be invaluable to bring back to our community include:

1) Sustainable Community-Based Economics

2) Core Business courses (Finance, Marketing, Business Strategy, Accounting & Organizational Behaviour)

3) Environment Economics & Planning

4) Indigenous Law & Governance *Key as we pursue our Self-Governance Act*

5) Facilitation, Negotiation & Conflict Resolution

6) Legal Concepts for Planning

While only graduating from UBC in November 2018 and commencing my Master's degree in September 2020, to date, I have nearly 3 years of professional experience through various internships. I worked with RBC Royal Bank for about 18 months and interned with the Provincial Government in the Ministry of the Attorney General. My time in government changed me profoundly. I was an Indigenous Liaison for Provincial Courthouses and specifically with the BC Sheriff's Service. Here, I developed my relationship-building skills between Indigenous and Canadian governance, something which I find incredibly important to a council position.

I want to acknowledge this is a very short summarized profile of who I am, what I represent and what I've accomplished professionally and educationally. For more information on my personal, professional and educational experiences, please see my resume attached to this blog.
